Overview
WHAT THIS STANDARD DESCRIBES. The scope from the PKN catalogue card, in full: "Podano wykaz 22 metod badań, które są stosowane przy badaniu jakości i ocenie partii konserw rybnych. Ustalono podział na badania pełne, niepełne i specjalne. Określono sposób pobierania próbek. Szczegółowo opisano 13 metod. Omówiono ocenę wyników badań w której zastosowano metodę statystyczną" [A list of 22 test methods used in testing the quality and assessing batches of canned fish is given. A division into full, partial and special tests is established. The method of sampling is specified. 13 methods are described in detail. The evaluation of the test results, in which a statistical method is used, is discussed].
STATUS (state of the card on 23.09.2026). The card has the header "Withdrawn" and the row "Withdrawal date: 26-10-2012". The card has no "Replaced by" field — the catalogue indicates no successor. Publication 10-02-1992, 6 pages; the standard replaced PN-A-86732:1983. Whether another document in force stands in the PKN catalogue today for the individual tests of canned fish — WE HAVE NOT ESTABLISHED.
ONE NUMBER, AT LEAST FOUR DIFFERENT TESTS. The card speaks of 22 methods; in the accreditation scopes four tests stand next to this standard, and 19 of the 27 entries indicate a clause of the standard (reading of 23.09.2026; laboratories / entries): • clause 2.3.11 — stability of the cans, thermostatic test ("Metoda termostatowa", "Metoda próby termostatowej" [thermostatic method, thermostatic test method]): 9 / 10 (AB 1033, AB 1042, AB 1087, AB 1095 — two entries, AB 1138, AB 370, AB 521, AB 704, AB 705); • clause 2.3.10 — container tightness, vacuum method: 7 / 7 (AB 1033, AB 1042, AB 1087, AB 1138, AB 370, AB 521, AB 705); • clause 2.3.7 — proportion of the aqueous layer, volume measurement: 2 / 2 (AB 433, AB 592); • without a clause — 5 laboratories / 8 entries: stability (AB 079, AB 492, AB 532 — the last with "Metoda hodowlana (próba termostatowa)" [culture method (thermostatic test)]), tightness (AB 492, AB 532), proportion of the aqueous layer (AB 285), organoleptic evaluation by a simple descriptive test — appearance of the surface layer, correctness of the arrangement, smell, colour, consistency, palatability, texture (AB 1334, AB 532). WE DO NOT GIVE the conditions of the thermostatic test (temperature, time) or of the vacuum test — we did not have the text of the standard. One laboratory (AB 1042) cites clauses 2.3.10 and 2.3.11 "z wyłączeniem pobierania próbek" [excluding sampling] — the card says that the standard specifies the method of sampling.
WHAT THE "LABORATORIES" TAB SHOWS. All notations of the number 86732 in the reference-document field (no digit before or after the number): 27 entries at 16 laboratories. The tab searches for notations BEGINNING with "PN-92/A-86732" and shows 8 laboratories in 15 entries (AB 1087, AB 285, AB 370, AB 492, AB 521, AB 532, AB 592, AB 705). It will not show half of them, because they write the designation differently: in the newer scheme "PN-A-86732:1992" — AB 079, AB 1033, AB 1095, AB 1138, AB 1334, AB 433; with spaces around the dash "PN – 92/A-86732" — AB 1042; with a space after the hyphen "PN-A- 86732:1992" — AB 704. A key in the newer scheme ("PN-A-86732") would show 6 laboratories instead of 8, so the more numerous scheme remains, and we list the others here.
OBJECT OF TESTING IN THE SCOPES. Canned fish (also "hermetycznie zamknięte" [hermetically sealed] and "w opakowaniach metalowych albo blaszanych" [in metal or tin containers]), fish and fish products, fish products; at AB 592 — "Ryby i inne zwierzęta wodne oraz ich przetwory" [fish and other aquatic animals and their products].
WHAT WE DO NOT GIVE. We did not have the text of the standard — PKN makes it available for a fee (6 pages). We do not give the list of 22 methods, the conditions of any test, the division into full, partial and special tests, the method of sampling or the statistical method of evaluating the results.
Method principle
According to the card of the standard: the quality of canned fish is tested with a set of methods — the standard lists 22 of them and describes 13 in detail — divided into full, partial and special tests, on samples taken in the manner specified in the standard, and the results are evaluated by a statistical method in relation to the batch. In the accreditation scopes the following stand next to this standard: the thermostatic test of the stability of the cans, the vacuum test of container tightness, the measurement of the volume of the aqueous layer and descriptive organoleptic evaluation. WE DO NOT GIVE the conditions of these tests — we did not have the text of the standard.
Applications
- Stability of canned fish — thermostatic test (clause 2.3.11 in the accreditation scopes)
- Tightness of the cans — vacuum method (clause 2.3.10)
- Proportion of the aqueous layer — volume measurement (clause 2.3.7)
- Organoleptic evaluation of canned fish — simple descriptive test
- Assessment of batches of canned fish on the basis of the test results — according to the card of the standard
