🌱 Water-soluble potassium in fertilizers — PN-EN 15477

Physicochemistry PN-EN 15477

In short

Method for the determination of water-soluble potassium; according to the PKN card it applies to all potassium fertilizers listed in the annex and in Regulation (EC) No 2003/2003, which has not been in force since 16 July 2022. The test is performed according to PN-EN 15477:2009 (wersja polska; wprowadza EN 15477:2009 [IDT]); Scope from the PKN card: Water-soluble potassium; all potassium fertilizers listed in the annex and in Regulation (EC) No 2003/2003. The procedure comprises 3 steps; it is used for: Water-soluble potassium content in potassium fertilizers listed in Regulation (EC) No 2003/2003 — that is what the card says; the regulation has not been in force since 16 July 2022 (repealed by Regulation (EU) 2019/1009, Art. 51), Mineral (inorganic) fertilizers — subject from accreditation scopes.

Overview

SCOPE FROM THE PKN CATALOGUE CARD, IN FULL (our translation): "This standard describes a method for the determination of water-soluble potassium, which is applicable to all potassium fertilizers listed in the annex and in Regulation (EC) No 2003/2003"

THE YEAR IN THE NUMBER AND THE POLISH VERSION. The year in the designation "PN-EN 15477:2009" is the year of the English version — its card gives publication on 16-02-2009 (11 pages). The Polish version appeared on 31-10-2013 (14 pages). Both adopt EN 15477:2009 [IDT]; neither of the two cards has a "Replaces" field or a "Withdrawn" heading (status of the cards as of 23.09.2026). Technical body: KT 156 Fertilizers.

WHAT THE SCOPES SAY. All 18 entries give the technique "Gravimetric method" (Metoda wagowa) — 16 in the technique field, 2 (AB 1186, AB 1616) in the description of the test; the subjects are mineral (inorganic) fertilizers, in one record also organo-mineral ones. The test is called "Water-soluble potassium content" (Zawartość potasu rozpuszczalnego w wodzie) (in one record with the addition "(K2O)"), and in four records briefly "Potassium content" (Zawartość potasu); two records give a range — "(2.0 – 65.0) %" and "(6.50 – 63.00) %". In what form the potassium is weighed — WE DO NOT GIVE IT: the card does not say, and we do not have the text of the standard.

REGULATION (EC) No 2003/2003 IS NOT IN FORCE. The card refers to this regulation as the list of potassium fertilizers to which the method applies. Regulation (EU) 2019/1009 of the European Parliament and of the Council states in Article 51: "Regulation (EC) No 2003/2003 is repealed with effect from 16 July 2022. References to the repealed Regulation shall be construed as references to this Regulation." (our translation of the Polish text, read on 23.09.2026). Article 52 prohibits impeding the making available on the market of products that were placed on the market before 16 July 2022 as "EC fertilisers" in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 2003/2003. The PKN card still cites the repealed regulation; whether the standard has been amended after 2022 — WE HAVE NOT ESTABLISHED.

WHAT WE DO NOT GIVE. We do not have the text of the standard — PKN sells it. That is why WE DO NOT GIVE the reagents, the sample mass, the method of dissolving the sample in water, the conditions of the determination or the calculation formula.

SCALE OF CITATIONS (measurement of 23.09.2026). The key "PN-EN 15477" — 16 laboratories / 16 entries. Two laboratories stay outside the tab, whose record is distorted at the very beginning: AB 787 ("P N-EN 15477:2009" — a space in the PN element) and AB 006 ("PN-EN15477:2009" — no space before the number). Across all forms of notation: 18 laboratories / 18 entries.

Method principle

The standard describes a method for the determination of water-soluble potassium in potassium fertilizers — that is what the PKN card says. In accreditation scopes the technique is the gravimetric method; WE DO NOT GIVE the reagents and the conditions.

Step-by-step procedure

  1. Fertilizer sample

Potassium fertilizer — the card speaks of fertilizers listed in the annex and in Regulation (EC) No 2003/2003, which has not been in force since 16 July 2022 (repealed by Regulation (EU) 2019/1009, Art. 51). WE DO NOT GIVE the mass and the preparation of the sample.

  2. Determination

Water-soluble potassium — in accreditation scopes by the gravimetric method. WE DO NOT GIVE the conditions.

  3. Entry in the report

State the full designation PN-EN 15477:2009 and the form of the result — in the scopes it is sometimes given as K2O.
