🌡️ Test B — dry heat — PN-EN 60068-2-2
In short
Steady-state dry heat tests for heat-dissipating and non-heat-dissipating products — determination of the ability of components, equipment and other products to be used, transported and stored at high temperature. The test is performed according to PN-EN 60068-2-2:2009 (wersja polska; wprowadza EN 60068-2-2:2007 [IDT] i IEC 60068-2-2:2007 [IDT]); Variants of the test (card): Bb — non-heat-dissipating products; Bd — heat-dissipating; Be — heat-dissipating, powered throughout the test; all with gradual change of temperature. The procedure comprises 4 steps; it is used for: Testing the resistance of electrical and electronic products to high temperature — use, transport, storage (card), Fire detectors, control panels and call points of smoke control equipment, plug-in connectors, electrical components of vehicles (subjects from accreditation scopes).

Overview
SCOPE FROM THE PKN CATALOGUE CARD, IN FULL (our translation): "Steady-state dry heat tests are given for both heat-dissipating and non-heat-dissipating products. The object of the dry heat tests is limited to determining the ability of components, equipment and other products to be used, transported and stored at high temperature. The dry heat tests are divided into: dry heat tests for non-heat-dissipating products (with gradual change of temperature; test Bb) and the dry heat test for heat-dissipating products (with gradual change of temperature, test Bd, and for heat-dissipating products with gradual change of temperature in which the product is powered throughout, test Be)"
THREE VARIANTS OF THE TEST. The card distinguishes: Bb — non-heat-dissipating products, with gradual change of temperature; Bd — heat-dissipating products, with gradual change of temperature; Be — heat-dissipating products, with gradual change of temperature, powered throughout the test. A record "test B" without a letter therefore does not say which of the three variants was performed or whether the product was powered.
PLACE IN THE SERIES. This database has entries on two other tests of the PN-EN 60068-2 series: Fc — sinusoidal vibration (part 2-6) and Cab — damp heat, steady state (part 2-78). In accreditation scopes the subjects of test B include fire detectors (multi-sensor, carbon monoxide, linear smoke detectors), control panels for smoke control equipment, manual smoke-release call points, plug-in connectors and electrical and electronic components of vehicles.
HOW THE SCOPES CITE IT. Often not on its own. In 24 records (22 entries, two laboratories) PN-EN 60068-2-2 does not stand at the beginning, but after the words "using" (z wykorzystaniem): at AB 207 (18 records) the record begins with a clause of the product standard — e.g. "p. 5.6.1.1 z wykorzystaniem / using PN-EN 60068-2-2:2009" (17 times with "p.", once with the clause number alone), and at AB 023 (6 records) with the number of the product standard: PN-EN 54-5, 54-11, 54-12, 54-17, 54-18 or PN-EN 12101-10. The tab shows both laboratories thanks to other records, but 20 of these 22 entries are not counted in it. Next to the Polish form, the international document alone also appears: "IEC 60068-2-2:2007" (3 records, a fourth as "IEC 60068-2-2: 2007-07") and "EN 60068-2-2:2007" (1). The test is called "Resistance to dry heat" (Odporność na suche gorąco), "Tests B — dry heat" (Próby B — suche gorąco) or — in records with product standards — "Characteristics for the assessment of functionality…" (Cechy do oceny funkcjonalności…).
EDITIONS. PN-EN 60068-2-2:2009 in the Polish version (17 pages, KT 65 Environmental Testing of Electrical Products) adopts EN 60068-2-2:2007 and IEC 60068-2-2:2007 [IDT]; according to the card it replaces PN-EN 60068-2-2:2007 — English version. The card has no "Withdrawn" heading (read on 23.09.2026). The adopted document has, however, been replaced by its publisher: the IEC page (read on 23.09.2026) gives IEC 60068-2-2:2025, edition 6.0 with publication date 2025-09-23, with the sentence "This sixth edition cancels and replaces the fifth edition published in 2007. This edition constitutes a technical revision." The 2009 PN-EN edition therefore carries the IEC content of 2007, which IEC has replaced with a technical revision; there is no newer PN-EN edition in the PKN catalogue (PKN search, read on 23.09.2026). Chain of editions according to the cards: PN-EN 60068-2-2:2002 (Polish version) → PN-EN 60068-2-2:2007 (English version, published 16-11-2007, withdrawn 31-08-2009) → PN-EN 60068-2-2:2009 (Polish version). The two records "PN-EN 60068-2-2:2002" in the scopes therefore cite an edition two generations older than the current one.
WHAT WE DO NOT GIVE. We do not have the text of the standard — PKN sells it. That is why WE DO NOT GIVE the test temperatures, the exposure times, the rates of temperature change or the requirements for the chamber.
THE KEY OF THE TAB — WITH A COLON (measurement of 23.09.2026). A key without a colon ("PN-EN 60068-2-2") would also catch part 2-27 of this series — in the scopes, shock tests ("Test Ea") stand with these records: it would show 25 laboratories / 39 entries, including three laboratories (AB 296, AB 665, AB 1241) with part 2-27 only. The colon cuts off part 2-27, but also three laboratories that write this standard with the number alone, without a year (AB 041, AB 128, AB 1280). On both sides the balance of laboratories is equal — three for three — so the balance of entries decides: without a colon 10 foreign entries would be added, with a colon 3 of our own are lost. The tab shows 19 laboratories / 26 entries. Across all forms of notation the standard stands in the scopes of 24 laboratories (51 entries); the tab will not show five — three with a record without a year and two (AB 1776, AB 1899) that cite the international document alone, "IEC 60068-2-2".
Method principle
The product is exposed to dry heat at a constant temperature in order to determine its ability to be used, transported and stored at high temperature. The card distinguishes variants for non-heat-dissipating products (Bb) and heat-dissipating products (Bd, and Be — powered throughout the test), all with gradual change of temperature. WE DO NOT GIVE the test parameters.
Applications
- Testing the resistance of electrical and electronic products to high temperature — use, transport, storage (card)
- Fire detectors, control panels and call points of smoke control equipment, plug-in connectors, electrical components of vehicles (subjects from accreditation scopes)
